Mesterolone, also known by its brand name Proviron, is a synthetic androgenic-anabolic steroid (AAS) that is derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is primarily used in the treatment of low testosterone levels in men, infertility, and hypogonadism.
Mesterolone works by binding to androgen receptors in the body, which leads to an increase in testosterone levels. It also inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which converts testosterone into estrogen. By reducing estrogen levels, mesterolone can help prevent or alleviate symptoms associated with excess estrogen, such as water retention and gynecomastia (enlarged breast tissue in males).
